Hi I’m Maureen,
I’m an Irish-trained dietitian now calling Australia home. Growing up in a family of food producers and orchard owners, my childhood was spent picking fresh herbs, fruits, and vegetables straight from the garden. Some of my fondest memories include blackberry picking and turning our harvest into jams and sweet treats. Food represented more than nourishment- it was connection and community. These early experiences sparked my passion for health — and how food shapes it — and set me on a path of endless curiosity about nutrition, health and wellbeing.
That curiosity led me to Ulster University, where I graduated with First Class Honours in Dietetics in 2023. During my studies, I explored my passion for biology, biochemistry, and clinical nutrition, and my clinical placements gave me hands-on experience across paediatrics, acute wards, and community settings. After graduation, I worked as an acute dietitian across a variety of areas — from nutritional support and enteral feeding, to swallowing issues, rehabilitation, and chronic disease management. Everyday was different – and I loved it! This experience built a strong foundation of clinical skills and experience.
Early 2024, I took the leap to Australia. While waiting for my Australian dietetic skills recognition, I found myself working in the remote mining and construction sector — not quite what I imagined for a dietitian, but it was an adventure nonetheless! That said, my heart has always been with nutrition, and I love helping clients explore their relationship with food in a way that feels safe, supportive, and sustainable. My approach is collaborative, flexible, and grounded in both science and compassion. One motto I live by is focusing on what we can control, rather than what we can’t — it’s amazing how freeing that perspective can be. I’m especially passionate about helping clients navigate complex relationships with food, from sensory sensitivities to chronic conditions and life transitions. My goal is to create a safe and collaborative space where change feels achievable, practical, flexible and not overwhelming.
At Dietwise, I practise using a trauma-informed, neurodiversity-affirming and harm-minimisation approach. I work from a weight-neutral, Health at Every Size® (HAES-aligned) lens, focusing on optimising nutrition to support all aspects of health rather than rigid weight-centric care. In addition, a central focus of my practice is supporting children, adolescents and adults experiencing picky or fussy eating, and ARFID (Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder). I take a structured but gentle approach that prioritises felt safety, food preferences, sensory needs, nervous system regulation and autonomy.
I also work with digestive health concerns including IBS (with FODMAP support where appropriate), coeliac disease, reflux, constipation, diarrhoea and food intolerances. My focus is on improving symptoms while maintaining nutritional adequacy and avoiding unnecessary restriction. I support individuals managing metabolic and chronic conditions such as hypercholesterolaemia, MAFLD, hypertension, impaired glucose tolerance, insulin resistance and Type 2 diabetes. Women’s health is another area of interest, including PCOS, endometriosis, fertility, pregnancy and menopause. I provide evidence-based nutrition support that acknowledges hormonal complexity while remaining sensitive to body image concerns.
For clients using GLP-1weight loss medications, I provide structured nutrition guidance to support adequate protein and micronutrient intake, minimise gastrointestinal side effects and preserve lean muscle mass. I also assist with underweight and malnutrition, iron and other micronutrient deficiencies, oral nutrition supplementation and PEG feeding.
Outside of work, you’ll find me by the coast, exploring cafés, going for long walks, practising Pilates and feeding my brain (it never stops!).
Slán for now,
Maureen
