With thousands of different strategically placed food items to choose from, selecting food that will optimise the health of you and your family can be intimidating, confusing and overwhelming. Our Dietitian-led hands-on supermarket tours are an empowering experience to help you learn what foods to look for, where they’re located and understand how healthy they are for your specific health needs. It is an opportunity to translate the science of nutrition into real foods to buy. We can build a fully personalised tour where you will learn lots of helpful tips and tricks so you walk away a confident and savvy supermarket shopper.

Your Supermarket Savvy Package is made up of 3 sessions. In session 1, your goals will be discussed with the Dietitian which can include:
- How to read and understand nutrition panels and ingredients lists
- Understanding labels- ‘high protein’, ‘low carb’, ‘low sugar’ etc
- How to spot diet culture on food packaging
- Hidden words for animal fat, sugar, salt and FODMAPS
- Understanding symbols- Health Star Rating, FODMAP Friendly

Session 2 has a focus on menu planning to suit your unique requirements including budget considerations. Sessions 1 and 2 lay the foundation for Session 3, the Supermarket Savvy Tour which is fully personalised to meet any specific health concerns, medical conditions, eating patterns and food preferences, such as:
- General healthy eating for you or your whole family
- Weight concerns
- Digestive issues- Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Diverticular Disease, Crohn’s Disease, Ulcerative Colitis, reflux, constipation, diarrhoea

Session 3 is the in-store Supermarket Savvy Tour. As it requires walking around the supermarket aisles for 60-75 minutes, this is a consideration in terms of any mobility issues. If you use a wheelchair or mobility scooter, both Dietwise and Coles are accessible. In addition, if you can get overstimulated in the supermarket, the Dietitian can conduct your tour at Quite Hour (Tuesdays 10.30 - 11.30am) for a low-sensory in-store experience with less noise and distractions.

Session 1: Initial Assessment
This allows our Dietitian Caylah to get to know you e.g. relevant medical history, family history of conditions, medications, work and lifestyle, social situation, food preferences, nutrition knowledge, cooking skills and nutrition goals. This will help personalise Session 2- Menu Planning 101.

You will learn how to plan your meals for the week in a way that sets you up for success.

Session 3: Supermarket Savvy Tour
This is an educational hands-on tour led by our expert Dietitian Caylah, where the supermarket aisles become your classroom. You will Learn the tips and tricks to navigate the supermarket and become a confident shopper with practical tips and information matched to your unique needs, and product recommendations galore. This is a fun educational experience rather than a shopping expedition with a trolley or shopping basket.

As part of your package, you will receive the following goodies and more:

The Supermarket Savvy package consists of 3 sessions in total. The package cost is:
- For individuals- $527.00
- For 2 people (couples, family members)- $617.00
Yes. If you attend alone or as a group of 2, a rebate can be claimed under Medicare if you have a Chronic Disease Management (CDM) Plan. Alternatively, a rebate can be claimed under your private health insurance if you have cover for Dietetics. Contact your health fund to check your rebate eligibility.
Once paid in full for the 3-session package, you will be issued a receipt. You will also be issued a separate receipt after you have attended each session which will have the date of service and item number which can be used to claim your rebates from your private health fund. If you are claiming under Medicare, our care Coordinator will process your rebate after each session has been completed. Please note that a rebate for missed sessions or short-notice cancellations cannot be claimed through Medicare or private health funds as a service must be provided to be able to claim. The following conditions apply to the Supermarket Savvy package:
- Your package must be paid in full at the time of booking
- If a session is missed with no attempt to contact us (by phone or email) within 24 hours of your appointment time, this is classed as a ‘No-Show’ and cannot be rescheduled. We have an answering machine if you ring after hours
- If you cancel within 24 hrs this is classed as a short-notice cancellation. You will be allowed 1 short-notice cancellation and your session can be rescheduled. For any subsequent short-notice cancellations, your session cannot be rescheduled
- If you have paid for the 3-session package and wish to cancel it, please cancel 48 hrs before your booked Session 1 time to receive a full refund. If you cancel less than 48hrs in advance, you will be refunded for Sessions 2 and 3 only.
- Your package sessions are not transferable
- Late arrivals to any session will result in a shorter session
- Time lost from a session cut short by the participant cannot be made up later
- In the unlikely event your Dietitian is unwell, your session will be rescheduled
We understand that in some circumstances short-notice cancellation may be unavoidable due to illness or unplanned emergencies. In these cases, please contact us as soon as possible to ensure our ‘No-Show’ policy is not unfairly applied. Please note that a rebate for missed sessions or short-notice cancellations cannot be claimed through Medicare or private health funds as a service must be provided to be able to claim.
Depending on your preference, Caylah can meet you at the Southern entrance door (city facing) of North Perth Plaza. Alternatively, she may like to meet at our Dietwise clinic on Level 2, 448 Fitzgerald St North Perth and walk over the road to Coles together. This will be arranged in advance. If you arrive early, there is seating inside the shopping centre opposite Coles.
Our care Coordinator will email a brief New Patient Intake Form that can be completed online. This is helpful in providing valuable information before Session 1. If you prefer to not complete this online, please arrive 10 minutes earlier to Session 1 to complete the form.
Comfort is a priority on your tour. If you tend to get cold, please bring a cardigan or jacket to keep warm in the refrigerated and frozen food aisles. Clothing with pockets is handy to hold your mobile phone if you want to take photos of any recommended products along the way. We recommend flat, non-slip and comfortable shoes and bring reading glasses if you use them. Caylah will provide a magnifying glass to help read the small print on food labels, a pen, paper, a clipboard, and take-home resources. Remember to use the toilet before your tour starts and ensure you have eaten beforehand if your tour is at a mealtime.
Yes. Our group tours are limited to 2 people as couples or family members to offer a highly personalised service.
