Mental Health Nutrition

In recent years, research has shown the importance of good nutrition for supporting both mood and mental health. Gut health is at the centre of this research including the gut-brain axis and its link to mood and mental health. At Dietwise, we understand just how complex the relationship between the gut, mind and body can be, and also how challenging it can be to maintain your nutrition when your mental health is not at its best.

How our dietitians can help with mental health nutrition:

Our dietitians will help you make changes that will support your physical and mental health with recommendations tailored to your capacity, including:

  • improving and supporting your gut microbiome
  • managing gut symptoms you may be experiencing including bloating, diarrhoea, constipation, reflux, pain or nausea
  • matching a dietary pattern to your needs e.g. plant-based, Mediterranean
  • making peace with food, ditch dieting, and have a positive relationship with your body
  • working smarter, not harder to nourish yourself when you are struggling with your mental health
  • managing weight changes as a side effect of medications e.g. stimulants for ADHD, psychotropic medications
  • improving your appetite or connect with your hunger and fullness signals
  • meal planning and food preparation when money or capacity is a challenging
