Low FODMAP Diet
FODMAPs stands for Fermentable Oligosaccharides, Disaccharides, Monosaccharides and Polyols. These were discovered by researchers at Monash University and have been found to play a role in Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) symptoms. The low FODMAP diet has been scientifically proven to provide 75% of people with relief of their IBS type symptoms.
Symptoms of IBS include: abdominal pain, cramping, wind, bloating, constipation and/or diarrhoea.
By eliminating foods that are high in FODMAPs, symptoms of IBS can resolve within a matter of weeks. This is referred to as following a low FODMAP diet.
